"The most beautiful sculpture is the sky." Gilioli.

Gilioli's work is remarkably unified in form, material and style. The form always revolves around the ideality of the egg or the polished pebble, the material, that of the worker that will always remain, the way, polished, smoothed, up to the mirror, that of the craftsman of "the right way" that will always remain.

This sculpture, at the heart of Gilioli's work, perfectly represents Gilioli's talent for inscribing formal perfection in his artistic work.
Two characteristics come up very often in his work: the balanced circle and the broken line.

These two features are found in Apparition architecturale : the circular shape that floats or balances on the line reminds us of the power of the sun.
This bronze was cast from an original onyx.
Gilioli has designed several monumental sculptures for public places. Borrowing the same refined formal means as in the smaller works, they often assert the majesty of the vertical. Born of a feeling, an idea, their latent anthropomorphism - like that of this work - would not be denied by an artist who, like the painters brought together by the Granville family, maintains the link with a reality, often internalized.

"Architectural Appearance" perhaps reveals the ambition to achieve architecture through monumental sculpture. More than the ascent sought in works that look up to the sky, it is the balance between the erected form and its horizontal support, the contrast between density and restraint (concave volume, familiar forms of the egg and the cube introverted on the face), the ambivalence of the dark bronze and its polish reflecting the light, that give the work its tension, its presence.
