Clément Rosenthal was born in 1956 in Paris. The fact that he came from a family of artists had an undeniable influence on his career and explains his early interest in artistic representation, more particularly pictorial. From childhood he was immersed in an exclusively artistic world.
His father, Manuel Rosenthal, is a composer and conductor recognized both in France and abroad. His grandmother, who was the wife of Maurice Pillard Verneuil, practices the applied arts with talent. It was with her that he assisted, as a child, in the development of a drawing or a watercolor and its influence on him was decisive. She also passed on to her the passion for Asian art that she shared with Maurice Pillard Verneuil. Maurice Pillard Verneuil, his grandfather, an Art Nouveau decorator and art historian, drew his inspiration in particular from the forms of nature, plants and animals and was particularly interested in Japanese art. . We find in the work of Clément Rosenthal the same attraction for the representation of the forms of nature and the same interest for Asian art. He also frequently accompanies his parents to many cities in Europe where his father is invited as a conductor. The assiduous visits to museums during these stays allow him to soak up the masterpieces of painting, in particular Flemish and medieval German painting.
The youthful years from 1973 to 1978 were devoted to the study of painting and drawing. He regularly attends the free workshops of the art academies of Paris where he learns academic drawing from live models. At the same time, he also attended the studio of a close friend, an experienced painter, who taught him the basics of different pictorial techniques. From 1979 he painted his first personal works in which he tried to reconcile classical painting and abstract painting, Western art and Asian art, seeking less to express a personal style. That to master as much as possible the traditional technique of painting in its most varied forms.
From 1983, he worked with various gallery owners and professionals in the artistic community in France and abroad, including the art dealer Jacques Melki, whom he met in 2000 and with whom he worked for many years. He participates in several Contemporary Art fairs: Basel Contemporary Art Fair, FIAC, Miami Art Basel Week, New York Armory Park Avenue, Palm Beach Art Show. Some of his works have been acquired by the Center d'Art Contemporain Georges Pompidou, the FRAC Ile de France, the FRAC Rhône Alpes, as well as by private foundations.
